School of Business Celebrates 2024 Awards And MBA Hooding Ceremonies

The School of Business celebrated its spring awards and MBA hooding ceremonies on Friday, May 17, in Halpin Harrison Hall, Stimpson Auditorium. The event honored the achievements of nearly 80 Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) undergraduate students, more than 50 MBA students, and 15 graduate certificate recipients.

Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs & Undergraduate Curriculum & Associate Professor of Information Systems and Technology Michael Magro, Ph.D., and Associate Dean of Graduate Programs & Professor of Management Bernadine Dykes, Ph.D., led the event, with additional remarks from University Provost Karen Abraham, Ph.D., and Alumni Board President and Board of Trustees Member Kyle W. Feldman, DPT, ’11, ’14.

A lot of our board members have done very well in business, and I’ve asked every single one of them what made them successful. They said [it was] their conversations, their networking, and their communication…that’s what got them to where they are today.”

Feldman encouraged students to stay in touch with one another, their professors, and the university in order to make and keep valuable career and life connections.

Giles Jackson, Ph.D., director of the Institute for Business, Sustainability & Society, recognized Finn Swafford ’24, BBA/Concentration in Management, of Stafford, Virginia, as the first business student to complete the four-course Sustainable Business Certificate.

Swafford, who works at Massanutten, a premier four-season resort in McGaheysville, Virginia, designed and implemented a ‘Leave No Trace’ project, a set of seven principles to lessen the impact that people, including staff and visitors, make throughout the 6,000-acre resort. He also worked with the Massanutten staff to create signage and messaging throughout the resort. Read the full article.

In addition, Class of 2024 BBA undergraduate students were bestowed with specially designed medals to emphasize their perseverance through difficult times. Each student graduated from high school and began university studies in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic.
